As fashion’s tastemakers dictated and debated on this year’s guiding spring styles, summer arrived in the Philippines in full force. In both instances, dressing for our respective seasons is an exercise in balance. While the Northern Hemisphere fights to master their “summer in the sun but winter in the shade” weather, on our shores it’s a bid to accommodate the searing temperatures of the outdoors and the bitter chill of our air conditioned offices.
Bright colors and light fabrics are key to contending with the unrepentant heat, while unconventional patterns and silhouettes add form to function. On the flipside, summer doesn’t have to mean your outerwear gets relegated to the back of your closet. When the season’s feather-light garments don’t cut it, assert yourself with an unapologetic leather jacket. – Arianna Lim
