Since 2001, Tomas Maier has served as creative director at Bottega Veneta, one of the crowning jewels of the Kering group—which is home to, among other luxury brands, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Balenciaga. The German-born fashion designer also founded his eponymous label in 1997 and has since become known for understated Italian-made wardrobe staples.
His latest venture, a hotly anticipated collaboration with Japanese retailer Uniqlo, is perhaps the latter’s most awaited partnership for 2018 and promises Maier’s tasteful approach to resortwear at a more accessible price point. “The concept of my brand is all about clothes for time off,” he explains. “I would say it’s easy and fun.”
The LifeWear line designed by Maier— a “marriage of [Uniqlo’s] know-how with [his] leisure style”—features collections in a balanced spectrum of colors, from sun-kissed hues such as orange, red, and yellow, to neutrals like navy, khaki, and black. The men’s range includes easily coordinated separates from light jackets and polo shirts to T-shirts and casual pants, while the women’s line is comprised of camisoles, dresses, sweaters, and swimwear.
The Tomas Meier and Uniqlo resortwear collection launches on May 18, but in the meantime, you can shop these recently launched Uniqlo collections in collaboration with designer Jonathan Anderson and Finnish design house Marimekko, already available in store.
